This was probably the biggest task for Digital Immersion I have had so far. Our goal was to create a short film in iMovie to depict what a day in the life of a learner is like. I decided to include a day in my life, in addition to a day as a school student, because I am a learner too.
After 2 days of filming and 3 days of editing, this is my creation. Thank you to everyone who helped me out, especially my Year 13 students Kim, Toa and Lita who took the time to record themselves for me.

DeleteHi Georgia, this was SO cool to see the comparison between your day and the students' day. It really made me reflect on how I think (or don't think) of students as they arrive in class; I hardly ever consciously consider which class they just arrived from, what time of day it is, etc. One piece of feedback I would give is that the video was quite long at 10 minutes - I did actually watch most of it though! because I was curious and it was pretty fast-paced, but there were also parts that I jumped ahead maybe 20 seconds or so while you were walking or driving, so the editing could have been a bit tighter (feedback in preparation for the 3-minute film festival!) You must have a great relationship with these learners to get them to film for you :) Nice job! Can't wait to see the next one.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your feedback Nicola! It is super important we take into consideration the wider context of a students' life, rather than just how they are in our class! Yes I agree it was too long, I wish I could've spent more time on it! But as I'm sure you understand there's a million other things to be going so I had to make a sacrifice - I had a couple of hours worth of film to pick and choose from! Definitely a good learning curve and prep for the film festival. In terms of relationships, that is such a good point I hadn't even considered! Thanks again for your feedback and taking the time to watch this, it means a lot :)

In prep for the film festival, I love the go pro viewpoints and the music was awesome. Keep up the great work!

I, too, rarely think about where my learners have come from before they get to school. Also, fantastic role modelling with the commitment to your wellbeing with bootcamp in the mornings. I am impressed. Keep up the fantastic work.
ReplyDeleteThank you Latai! We need to remember students have a life outside of school, and we don't know what happens when they are off school grounds. I know a lot of my teaching includes acting, so I am sure the students act throughout their days too.. I appreciate the feedback and boost of confidence, what kind of Health and PE teacher wouldn't exercise and consider their wellbeing? :)
